Cumberland County Divorce Records
Divorce or dissolution of marriage is handled in the Family Division of the Superior Court in Cumberland County. These records document the legal end of a marriage. Where the records are kept depends on whether the case is still active, closed, or the year it was filed.
Divorce cases completed in or before 2008 are maintained by the Clerk of the Superior Court and stored at the Superior Court Record Management Center rather than the local courthouse.
Only limited information from divorce cases is available to the public. Members of the public may obtain some details, such as the names of the parties, the county where the divorce was granted, the filing date, and the date the divorce became final. The full case file is not open for public review. Authorized individuals may request a divorce certificate containing similar summary details for a fee of $10.
Requests for divorce records may be made in person, by mail, or through the NJ Judiciary’s online case management system. Open case files may be requested through the courthouse, while older records are handled by the Office of the Superior Court.
